Presented in collaboration with the Stanford Jazz Festival, ICMA is pleased to invite you to Indian Jazz Journey, a truly cross-cultural musical treat sure to please audiences of all backgrounds. In this unique concert, Jazz saxophone virtuoso George Brooks and Indian classical music visionary Mahesh Kale unite for a collaboration that transcends cultural and musical barriers. Berkeley-native George has a colossal saxophone sound, an intuitive creativity, commanding technique, and affinity for the spirituality and culture of Indian classical music. Indian superstar vocalist Mahesh is a phenomenon, beloved for his enchanting, reverberant voice and his unique ability to interweave classical and popular music. They will be joined by world-class accompanists - legendary South Indian percussionist and kanjira virtuouso V. Selvaganesh, German/Liberian electric bassist Kai Eckhardt, and Egyptian-born pianist, and Osam Ezzeldin. Together, this is a definitively global ensemble, whose otherworldly sounds will be steeped in Indian ragas and rhythms, creating an intriguing blend of jazz energy and Indian traditions! The 24th Annual Live at Juilliard Park Concert series continues June 25th with a performance by Dirty Cello. Dirty Cello brings the world a high energy and unique spin on blues and bluegrass. Led by vivacious cross-over cellist, Rebecca Roudman, Dirty Cello is cello like you’ve never heard before. From down home blues with a wailing cello to virtuosic stompin’ bluegrass, Dirty Cello is a band that gets your heart thumping and your toes tapping! Concert starts at 5 pm. The 25th Annual Summer Series of live music, dinners, cocktails, picnics, dancing, a Kid Zone, and fun continues on Saturday July 22nd with the Oakland’s own Grammy winning band: PACIFIC MAMBO ORCHESTRA. This 2014 Grammy® Award winning 19-piece Latin Big Band plays Salsa, Mambo, Latin Jazz, Cha Cha Cha along with a fusion of sounds that incorporate more modern genres. They deliver original music and clever, modern arrangements of hit songs, paving the way to a bold new sound designed to reach the next generation of Big Band listeners. Get ready to dance! The wooden dance floor will be set on the turf and under the bistro lights to add to the night of fun, and Dance Arts Studio of San Rafael instructors will be there pre-concert to teach you a few mambo moves to keep you moving through the night. The Osher Marin JCC’s outdoor music series has been created to celebrate diversity, find commonalities, and bring generations together through live music. The 25th Annual Summer Series of live music, dinners, cocktails, picnics, dancing, a Kid Zone, and fun presents it’s 4th summer concert on Saturday July 29th with Afro-Cuban beats from RICARDO LEMVO & MAKINA LOCA. Congo born musician and singer, Ricardo Lemvo, arrives with his band, Makina Loco, along with their blend of Afro-Cuban rhythms with pan-African styles, for an evening of innovative music. And dancing on the wooden dance floor under the stars! Having established himself as a multi-cultural music pioneer, Ricardo is the embodiment of the Afro-Latin Diaspora, connecting back to Mother Africa via the Cuban clave rhythm. He is equally at home singing in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Lingala and Kikongo. Since forming his Los Angeles-based band Makina Loca in 1990, Lemvo has refined his craft and vision, raising his joyous voice with strength, singing songs that celebrate life, and most importantly, inspiring his audiences to let loose and dance away their worries.
